What Is
T-MotBlot™?
T-MotBlot™, which stands for Targeted Motivational Behavioural Lens of Tension™, is an extension of the broader ValCoRE™ Framework. It was developed to provide a structured way of understanding how values, motivations and behaviours shift as individuals navigate increasing levels of pressure, complexity and competing demands. While the ValCoRE™ Framework explores the interaction between Values, Consciousness, Resilience, Evolution and their integrated expression through Coherence, T-MotBlot™ focuses more specifically on the behavioural dynamics that emerge when these capacities are tested.
At its core, T-MotBlot™ is not concerned with assigning labels or categorising people into fixed personality types. Human beings are dynamic, continually adapting to changing circumstances, relationships and environments. The same individual may demonstrate remarkable confidence in one context, caution in another and uncertainty in a third. These variations do not necessarily represent inconsistency or contradiction. More often, they reflect the changing motivational forces operating beneath the surface as different tensions compete for attention.
Rather than attempting to define who a person is, T-MotBlot™ seeks to understand what is influencing their behaviour in a particular moment. It recognises that behaviour is rarely produced by a single cause. Instead, it emerges from the interaction of multiple internal and external factors, including personal values, competing priorities, emotional regulation, lived experience, organisational expectations, environmental pressures and an individual's current level of awareness. As these factors interact, different motivations become more or less dominant, shaping the decisions, behaviours and leadership responses that ultimately become visible.
This perspective represents an important shift in how behaviour is understood. Traditional approaches often begin with observable actions and work backwards to infer personality, communication style or behavioural preference. T-MotBlot™ begins one step earlier. It asks what invisible tensions were present before behaviour emerged and how those tensions influenced the choices that followed. By exploring the conditions that produced the behaviour, rather than simply describing the behaviour itself, the framework provides a richer and more nuanced understanding of human performance.
Central to T-MotBlot™ is the recognition that people are continually balancing competing motivations. An individual may simultaneously value achievement and wellbeing, innovation and certainty, loyalty and accountability, collaboration and independence. Under ordinary circumstances these competing motivations may coexist comfortably. As pressure increases, however, individuals are often required to prioritise one over another. The motivation that becomes dominant in that moment frequently determines the behaviour that follows.
For this reason, T-MotBlot™ asks a different set of questions from many traditional behavioural frameworks. Rather than asking What happened?, it asks Why did it happen? What competing values were present? What responsibilities were creating internal conflict? Which motivations became dominant under pressure? What assumptions influenced the decision? Where did awareness expand, and where did it narrow? How did these internal dynamics strengthen or weaken coherence?
These questions encourage reflection rather than judgement. They acknowledge that behaviour is often a rational response to the information, beliefs and pressures an individual is experiencing at that moment, even when the outcome proves ineffective. By understanding the motivational landscape beneath behaviour, individuals become better equipped to recognise recurring patterns, challenge unconscious assumptions and make more intentional choices in the future.
Importantly, T-MotBlot™ is not designed to determine whether behaviour is right or wrong. Nor is its purpose to diagnose personality or predict future behaviour with certainty. Instead, it functions as an interpretive lens that helps individuals, leaders and organisations explore the conditions influencing behaviour so that more informed conversations and better decisions can occur. It provides a practical framework for understanding the interaction between motivation, tension and behaviour without reducing people to simplistic categories or static profiles.
Within organisations, this creates significant opportunities for leadership development, coaching, organisational culture and team effectiveness. Leaders gain a deeper appreciation of the competing pressures experienced by their people. Teams develop a richer language for discussing conflict, collaboration and decision-making. Coaches are able to move beyond surface-level behaviours to explore the motivational dynamics driving sustainable change. Individuals themselves become more aware of the internal forces shaping their own responses, allowing them to exercise greater choice rather than simply reacting to circumstance.
Ultimately, T-MotBlot™ invites a different way of thinking about human behaviour. It recognises that what we observe is rarely the whole story. Every decision, every conversation and every leadership moment represents the visible outcome of countless invisible interactions taking place beneath conscious awareness. By bringing those interactions into the light, T-MotBlot™ creates opportunities for greater self-awareness, deeper understanding and more intentional human development.
Rather than asking people to become someone different, T-MotBlot™ helps them understand themselves more completely. In doing so, it strengthens one of the central aspirations of the ValCoRE™ Framework: building greater coherence between what we value, what we understand, how we respond under pressure and who we continue to become.
